Wedding Morning Detail Checklist: What to Pack for Perfect Photos

As a wedding planner, I can confidently say—the little things make a big difference. One of the most overlooked parts of your wedding day prep? Gathering all the meaningful, personal, and photogenic details for your photographer to capture while you’re getting ready.
I always recommend that my couples have a "details box" packed and ready the night before the wedding. This box should include everything from your invitation suite to your rings and personal heirlooms. Having it all in one place not only ensures nothing is forgotten, but it also makes the morning smoother and allows your photographer (and planner!) to get beautiful, cohesive flatlay shots without interrupting you.
Note: You do not need to have every single item on this list! Include only what’s relevant or meaningful to you. These are simply suggestions to guide you if you already have these items—and to help you remember the little things you might want photographed.
👠 WEARABLES
These items help tell the story of your style and are always part of those dreamy "getting ready" photos.
Wedding shoes
Jewelry
All rings (engagement ring(s), wedding band(s), class ring(s), etc.)
Ring box(es)
Perfume and cologne
Watch(es)
Wedding dress(es)
Veil
Boutonniere
Cufflinks
Tie or bowtie
📬 STATIONERY
These paper goods help set the tone of your day and look stunning in flatlays.
Two full copies of your invitation suite
One pre-addressed envelope with calligraphy (bonus if you include your specialty stamps!)
Unused specialty stamps
Wax seals
🕊️ IN MEMORY
If you’re honoring loved ones or carrying legacy items, include them here so your photographer can document their meaning.
Heirloom items (handkerchiefs, jewelry, trinkets)
Memory photos
Letters or mementos
🪞 MISCELLANEOUS
Personal touches always shine in photos and add depth to your day’s story.
Something old, new, borrowed, blue
Vow books or love letters
Any meaningful keepsakes (like a favorite bottle of bourbon or a custom charm)
Loose florals or bouquet (ask your florist for a few extra stems for styling!)
Guest favors
Pro Tip: Assign a bridesmaid or planner to be the keeper of this box until your photographer arrives. If possible, set it aside in a well-lit room for easy access. You'll be amazed at how these small items come together in photos to tell the full story of your wedding day.
Whether you're months out from your wedding or in the final stretch, save this post (or share it with a friend who's planning!). This simple prep step is one of the easiest ways to elevate your wedding gallery and preserve those sweet, meaningful moments forever.
